INSTALL worker

History

The roots of Floorcovers Local Union 2287 reach back into the 1800’s, when carpet layers were part of the Seamsters and Upholsterers Union. In 1941, locals 2241 and 2871 were incorporated as Local 2287. Major specialties in modern times still include installing carpet, wood flooring, and linoleum, but they have added vinyl and athletic field turf and track to their repertoire. Most floorcoverers are handy in every area, a must to stay on the job.

Local Union leadership works aggressively to maintain and expand jobs and jurisdiction through training and organizing. Their INSTALL program is a national apprenticeship training curriculum, journeyman assessment and certification program that creates a partnership between contractors, members and the major mills and manufacturers.
